Paramedic Position


The Town of Sanford, Maine is currently accepting applications for a full-time Paramedic in the Sanford Fire Department. In addition to Paramedic responsibilities, this position will also have firefighting duties.

Applicants must possess and maintain a valid, appropriate, motor vehicle operator's license. Applicants must possess a State of Maine Paramedic License or current National Registry Paramedic certification accompanied by a letter from the Maine EMS Office stating that the applicant is eligible to obtain a State of Maine Paramedic License. State of Maine Firefighter I and II certification is highly desirable. High School diploma or equivalent is required. Applicants are required to be at least twenty-one years of age due to operation of Municipal Emergency Vehicle insurance requirements. Testing will include but not limited to a physical agility and written test, a Chief's Interview, Background Investigation & Pre-Employment Physical.

The Sanford Fire Department is a community and service oriented agency. Sanford Fire Department responded to 3700 calls last year, and promotes a progressive Fire Service EMS attitude by supporting ACLS, PALS and PHTLS certifications for those at the paramedic level.

Located in Southern York County Maine, the Town of Sanford is a dynamic, growing community with a population center of approximately 23,000. Requirements are:
High School Diploma or GED
Current Basic EMT license or above with 2 years experience
Clean driver’s license
Pass a criminal background check
AVOC
Current CPR
Able to pass a medical physical and lift test
HAZMAT Awareness or refresher
Current immunizations
Meet all Maine Department of Labor disciplines
Be able to work alone with minimal supervision
Be able to read maps and use GPS devices

Disaster Response Team Specialists are paid volunteers that are called upon to respond in the event of a disaster, (i.e. Hurricane Katrina, 9/11, earthquake, etc.). In addition to "portal to portal" pay, AMR provides all transportation, food lodging and CISD for deployments of 15-17 days in length.
